The Abolition Project started as way of assimilating our team into the Reaching Out portion of the vision of our church. At first I wasn’t sure what we as a worship team could do corporately to impact a world outside our normal sphere of influence. However, I knew of the principle of Moses and his staff at the burning bush. You may remember that Moses felt inadequate, incapable, and unprepared for what God had asked him to do. Then God asked him, “What do you have in your hand?” It was a common staff used for shepherding his herd. God went on to use Moses and his staff to work mighty miracles. God will use whatever we have in our hand to accomplish His will.
We didn’t have a staff, but a few of us had been meeting to help each other craft songs that would glorify God. As I prayed about what our team could do, God put trafficking victims on my heart. Many are just boys and girls; someone’s daughter or son, brother or sister, stolen for the selfishness and evil of others.
I’m a realistic person who realizes that there is only so much good that we can do through our little project. However, I’m also a man who believes in miracles. I’m willing to throw down my staff and see what God will do. Please join with me in prayer and ask God to use this little project to make BIG changes in the lives of many people! Just imagine what God can do!
