On October 16, Mission Hills families met for a brief time of worship and then went OUT into our community to participate in pre-arranged service projects to bless our community in the name of Christ. Service projects included:
- O’Neill park trash pickup
- South County Outreach—painting, building shelves, cleaning
- Re-landscaping RSM City Hall’s Garden of Life; installing planters for YMCA youth to use for Gardening Club
- Delivering cookies to local police and fire stations
- Visitation at Park Terrace Senior Living
- Cleaning and re-landscaping for Teen Project, transitional living after foster care
- Free car wash
And that was just the BEGINNING!
CityServe is more than an event. It is a way of thinking that embodies who we are as the body of Christ. We are called to serve others and be a light to those around us. CityServe is a way of organizing ourselves to do just that.
What’s Next?...
Now it’s time to keep our eyes wide open for the needs around us and ask God how He wants us to serve. It could be anything—yardwork for a single mom or an elderly person, home repair or cleaning, collecting food or clothes for a family in need. There is no limit to how we can show the love of Christ to our community.
What Can I Do?
When you become aware of a need, consider becoming the “project manager” for that need. We will make the need known to the Mission Hills community and have folks contact you to join that CityServe team. Or you can join with your Life Group or another group of friends to serve.
Let’s BE the church and serve our community in the love of Christ and for His glory!
